Shades of Purple Color

Purple has been the color of nobility and royalty since ancient times and is associated with power, luxury, and ambition. Purple is associated with extravagance, wisdom, pride, grandeur, and magic. It may also represent mystery, the supernatural, or transformation.

Purple is a combination of blue and red, so it has the calmness of blue and the energy of red. When it comes to warm and cool colors, purples with more red in their composition are warmer than those with more blue.

Purple has been considered a sacred color since antiquity, with correlations to spirituality, the higher self, and fulfillment.

Purple is associated with nobility and royalty because the pigment was once costly and difficult to obtain. As a result, only the upper class of society could afford it.

Producing the Tyrian purple pigment was highly costly. As a result, purple is associated with aristocracy.

In this article, we will discuss about the shades of purple color including their names, as well as their Hex, RGB, and CMYK codes.

We will also highlight shades of purple pink (which have more red in their composition), and blue purple shades (shades of purple with more blue).

History of the color purple

Despite its rarity in nature, the color purple has long been considered a sacred color.

The Ancient Phoenicians were the first to discover how to create a durable purple dye. This occurred around 3000 years ago in the Phoenician city of Tir, which is now located in Lebanon.

The color is named after a dye known as Tyrian purple. This was created using snail murex mucus. One ounce of pigment required 250,000 mollusks.

Purple was expensive and could only be afforded by emperors and kings because a small amount of dye required a large amount of snail mucus. As a result, clothing dyed with this pigment used to cost more than a year’s salary for a man.

Since ancient Rome and Egypt, purple has been associated with spirituality. Emperors were thus considered gods’ descendants. That is why it is so rich in symbolism.

In the Byzantine Empire, empresses gave birth in the purple room.

In 1856, the English chemist William Perkin created a synthetic violet compound in an attempt to synthesize quinine, a known malaria treatment. Tyrian violet was the name given to this dye after it was patented. The color was later renamed purple.

What is the purple hex code?

Purple is located between blue and red on the color wheel, as it is an equal mixture of the two colors. The purple hex code is #800080. Purple is a secondary color in the RYB color model.
